Real Estate MLS Listing Resources
The Multiple Listing Service (mls Listing)
is a group of private databases which allows mls listing real estate brokers representing sellers
under a listing contract to widely share information about properties with real estate
brokers who may represent potential buyers or wish to cooperate with a seller's broker
in finding a buyer for the property.
Because there is no centralized authoritative "mls" and no universal data format, many searchable mls Listing databases exist such as the Multiple Service Listing In GTA, Hilton Head Island mls Listing Service, and mls Online, the
Official gateway to all Canadian mls information sponsored by The Canadian Real Estate Association.
Though not trademarked, the The Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR) is taking a strong stance against Austin mls members using the term "Austin mls" on their web sites. This creates a competitive advantage for web sites that are not associated with, nor abide by, the rules of the Austin mls drawn up by the ABoR Board of Directors.
There is no single authoritative "mls listing", and no universal
data format. The many local and private databases--some of which are controlled by single associations
of realtors or groupings of associations (which represent all brokers within a given community or geographical area) or by real estate brokers--are collectively referred to as the mls because of their reciprocal access agreements. You must have a limited service agency put your listing in the mls, and money is made by the agency only when your home sells. Many listing agencies have packages that will include posting your home in an mls listing.
